North County Health Fair Offers Great Promotional Opportunity for Health Industry Businesses
On August 9, 2012, the Chamber will hold its 7th Annual North County Health & Wellness Fair. This event provides an opportunity for local health & wellness related businesses to promote their products and services. The event also features a variety of health related free screenings for community members.

This popular event was sold out for the second year in a row and nearly 70 health-related businesses will promote their products and services.  The North County Health Fair is FREE to the public and a great way for health related businesses to promote their products and services. Youth Entrepreneurship Program (YEP) Seeking Input from Business Community
The Youth Entrepreneurship Program (YEP) which currently serves over 2300 students throughout San Diego County is seeking to create an advisory committee. YEP brings a huge benefit to area schools preparing the new leaders of tomorrow. Its mission is to teach students how to make a job, not just take a job.  The goal is to provide opportunities for students in high school, community college, or university, and military personnel to experience entrepreneurship.

Young people are given the opportunity to experience and explore the business world by offering internships and freelance opportunities. Other possibilities to experience and explore the business world is through competitions, such as the business plan competition, elevator pitch competition and the marketing campaign challenge, as well as programs such as YEP2Go!, the Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour and One on One business consulting for students.

YEP would like to create an advisory committee to help promote, sponsor and guide them. For more information, please attend their meeting on June 15th at 8:30 am at North County Regional Education Center, 255 Pico Avenue Community, San Marcos, CA 92069.

Oceanside Chamber Net 10 Networking Group Kicks off Next Week
The Oceanside Chamber has partnered with Net 10 Networkers to create a new networking group for Chamber members. On Thursday, June 14th, 5:30 - 7:30pm, Chamber members are invited to Fratelli's Italian Restaurant to learn more about the Chamber's newest networking venue.

Net 10 Networkers is an exclusive category business networking organization with chapters located in Carlsbad, Orange County, and now Oceanside. The Oceanside group is exclusively for members of the Oceanside Chamber, but prospective members are invited to visit two meetings.

The kick-off of the Oceanside group coincides with a book launch party for Chamber and Net 10 Member, Do Business Smarter. For more information, check out our Event Flyer. Register to Attend.

June Mixer at the "King of the MIssions"
Be sure to join us for a Sunset Mixer on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.   This mixer will be held in a unique setting, the beautiful rose gardens of the historic San Luis Rey Mission.  Currently in bloom are hundreds of roses situated within the archways of “The King of the Missions” providing both a scenic and fragrant venue with the historic Pepper Tree in full view.  As always, the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce will provide excellent networking opportunities and a variety of raffle prizes, delicious food and a no-host bar. Small Business Workshops Hosted by SBDC
The Small Business Development Center (SBDC)offers workshops on an ongoing basis to help entrepreneurs and businesses owners succeed.  Workshops include: How to Start a Business, Legal Structures, Business Taxes, Business Planning, Intro to Social Media, and Business Financing.  There are no fees to attend workshops. TUESDAY, JUNE 12, 10am-Noon BUSINESS FINANCING/SMALL BUSINESS LENDERS FORUM: This workshop is a resource for startups, or existing businesses that are seeking financing. The SBDC brings together a group of lenders and the SBA to provide you with financing options for your business. No Fee.

TUESDAY, JUNE 12, 1-3pm CREDIT RECOVERY: This Workshop is especially recommended for individuals who need to repair their credit and want to understand the use of credit in the loan process or have recently been denied credit. During this workshop, attendees will learn how to read a credit report and how to improve their credit.  They will also learn what lenders look for on a credit report and who is authorized to pull a credit report. No Fee.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 13, 1-3pm 10 STEPS TO GOVERNMENT CONTRACTING: Learn government "speak," marketing techniques specifically to government agencies, and how to navigate through agencies’ websites (this is a hands-on exercise, business owners that have lap tops are highly encouraged to bring them). No Fee.

Social Media has been around in limited ways for a long time but lately it has exploded into a world of itself. In the past there were "News Groups", "Forums" and "Discussion Groups" that allowed people of like mind to share and network. We still have those forms but Social Media has expanded to new platforms like Facebook, Google+, Linkedin and Twitter.

Like any “latest and greatest” technology, when the dust settles, businesses need to evaluate how that technology might be used or leveraged for the benefit of their business. Often, the first impulse can fall in two definitive camps: 1) This is the greatest thing since sliced bread, to 2) You have got to be kidding me. Generally, we find it works out to be somewhere in between.

All the new Social Media technologies bombard us with information. It is hard to figure out how to apply that information to your business. We can shed some light on what Social Media outlets are available and how they can be turned into business and marketing opportunities.
